Baccarat, meaning “Bacchus and the Threshing Floor”, is a family-run business that has been in the wine and spirits business for centuries. The Baccarat name first appeared in France in the mid-seventeenth century, when a young man named Jean Baccarat opened a small tavern in the village of Poyet in the region of Bordeaux. During the French Revolution, Jean Baccarat was arrested for his membership in the Jacobin party and was condemned to death by guillotine. However, it was discovered that the real owner of the Baccarat name was a well-known family of wine merchants, the Picus. This led to the abolition of the death penalty and Jean Baccarat was sent to exile on the island of Saint Helena. After the Restoration, Jean Baccarat returned to Bordeaux and founded a wine making business. The บาคาร่า  business and name eventually became famous for its fine crystal glassware, while the Picus family went on to become the largest wine merchant in France, selling wines from around the world.

The First World War was particularly devastating to the Baccarat business. In 1916, after the declaration of war by the Allied powers, the company was forced to close the doors. However, the Baccarat name continued to live on. The Baccarat brand was eventually purchased by the Italian Coricelli company in the 1950s, who moved their headquarters to Paris and changed their name to Baccarat SA.

In 1973, Jacques Péchin, the owner of Baccarat SA, founded a new company called the “Baccarat” company. The Baccarat company started off with a restaurant in Nice, France, but the business quickly grew and expanded to other locations around the world. In 1988, Jacques Péchin opened the first Baccarat restaurant in the United States at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. The Plaza Baccarat was a stunning success and remains a New York City landmark. In 1991, Baccarat opened their first restaurant in Las Vegas, and in 1999, Baccarat opened their first restaurant in London, England. The company continued to expand, opening restaurants in Australia, Japan, Mexico, New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, and Monaco, to name a few.

Baccarat today is considered to be one of the most reputable names in the world of luxury. The Baccarat brand is a leader in the world of luxury glassware and fine dining, with a reputation for producing crystal that is of the highest quality. In addition to fine crystal, the company also produces a wide variety of fine dining wines, champagnes, and liqueurs.
